If you were a hostage in a bank robbery...

...and one of your captors opened a safe deposit box full of jewelry and allowed you to play with it, would you? I was watching Kill Point last night. It’s a new show on Spike TV about a bank robbery gone bad. The pilot episode seemed nice and was fraught with tension. I thought, finally a show I can enjoy. Yesterday’s show however was a little blah. But, I diverge. Coming back to the original question, in yesterday’s episode, one of the captors brings out a deposit box with some jewelry in it and places it in front of the group of three girls. And they all just start trying out the different pieces of jewelry without much hesitation. I found that weird! If you were held in a bank and there was a real chance that you would not leave the building alive and your captor placed in front of you a wow piece of jewelry stolen from one of the safe deposit boxes, would you take it? What if it was the exact same jewelry that you have been eyeing for a long time, but did not buy because it was too expensive? And for the guys among you, what if you were in an electronic store hold up, and your captors let you start playing with the Wii or whatever else that fancies you - would you?

Take the jewelery and play with it as payment for being hostage..

That's kind of sick. The captors are perverted, they must derive some weird satisfaction from watching the captives playing with the jewelry.

I think I'd be too scared/angry/frustrated/confused to be playing with Jewelry or Wii or whatever else the captors allow me to play.

I'd use the time to try to fight back or get out.

Anonymous: good one :)

goldnsilver: See, that's what I think I would do too! Even though trying to get out would probably mean getting killed, and playing with the jewelry/Wii means remaining safe(er) :)
