Student Blogging Scholarships of $10,000 and $2,000!
Scholarships around the US is offering two scholarships for student bloggers!
The first one, The Political Blogging Scholarship, is specifically for college students who maintain a political blog. The scholarship amount is $2,000. If you or any of your friends go to college and blog about politics, you should consider applying for this scholarship. If you eventually win the scholarship, that’s just great. Even if you don’t, I sure this can generate some exposure and possibly good traffic. The submission deadline is fast approaching, so act now! The due date for submission is Sunday, February 4rd 2007 (6 pm PST). Their panel of judges will pick the finalists and the final winner will be decided through public voting beginning Monday, February 5th - February 12th 2007. Here are some more details from the scholarship website –
Scholarship Requirements:
* Your blog must contain unique and interesting information about political issues, current events, opinions, etc. No spam bloggers please!!!
* U.S. citizen;
* 3.0 GPA;
* Currently attending full-time in post-secondary education; and
* If you win, you must be willing to allow us to list your name and blog on this page. We want to be able to say we knew you before you became a well educated, rich, and famous blogging legend.
The second scholarship, The Blogging Scholarship, is open to bloggers of all topics, but politics. The scholarship amount for this one is a whopping figure of $10,000! It has been doubled from the $5,000 that was offered last year. In addition to the published grand prize, last year when the winners were announced, two runners up received $1,000 each and all the finalists got $100. It is not clear if this trend will be followed this year or not. The submission for this scholarship is not due until October 30th 2007 (12am PST). Mark your calendars NOW to make sure you will not miss it. Again, as I said before, there is not harm in trying. Winning a scholarship will be great in monetary terms, but not winning can still be great, in terms of exposure and traffic. And since there is so much time, work on improving your blog. I have seen some very good student finance blogs (a slightly outdated list is available here). I hope one of them makes it, and works as an ambassador of personal finance blogging in the student community. Here are some more details from the scholarship website –

Geez. When I was a student, I did not blog. And when I have started blogging, the scholarships are for student bloggers only. Wouldn’t Murphy be happy to add yet another law to his long list?

Thanks for the tip! I marked the date for the second one on my calendar, in case I'm back in school in the fall.
